How I Met My Neurodivergent Friend
Written & Performed by Adam Schwartz
Autistic Productions - Winnipeg, MB
V.3 - Théâtre Cercle Molière
Growing up, Adam Schwartz distanced himself from other people who were autistic and who he thought didn't fit in as well as he did. This show looks at the opportunities where Adam could have made some really awesome friends and chose not to. The story doesn't end there. It goes on to look at how, since having his light bulb moment, he has created Neurohilarity which has brought together neurodivergent artists to share their stories and their art creating his own community.

How I Met My Neurodivergent Friend

Autistic Productions—Théâtre Cercle Molière

For any fans of Adam Schwartz and his stand-up comedy, the intertwining of his usual work with stories of his childhood and later development gives a great look behind the curtain. While the particular jokes that tie the show together could likely do with a bit of tightening to make the flow between sections better, the overall stories and anecdotes of childhood misadventures between school and developmental classes more than makes up for it.

How I Met My Neurodivergent Friend—Théâtre Cercle Molière

Adam Schwartz set out to make a friend, and wound up making several.

By asking itself how to adapt to the individual, How I Met My First Neurodivergent Friend removed barriers to participation for its participants, onstage and offstage. This has created opportunities for some individuals with disabilities and who identify as neurodivergent to return to theatre, to learn something to use in their emerging careers, or to create a sense of being involved with, working on a, and belonging to a Fringe show, while forging new friendships and…of course, enjoying many laughs.
