A Curated Exit—Asper Centre for Theatre and Film-U of W

What if you could design your death experience? A Curated Exit is a dark comedy about grief, technology, and one woman’s desperate attempt to stay in control as her life unravels. Featuring a sheet-covered corpse and memories of a husband who refuses to stay out of the conversation, this world premiere asks what happens when we try to optimize the one thing that refuses to follow a plan. Come for the aesthetic endings. Stay for the worst Monday of Zoe’s life.

July 26th-It’s the last weekend of Fringe and it is sure to be crazy.

There seem to be a growing number of ‘Sold Out’ in advance shows, so check the Fringe website for up to date info, but remember that it doesn’t include the many more shows that sell out with walk up ticket sales. Great to see so many tickets being sold.

The Fabulous Jenny Awards!—Our yearly awards ceremony and Fringe wrap party will be Sunday night at Across the Board Game Cafe (211 Bannatyne). Doors will open at 9:30pm with the show starting at 10ish. Congrats to Improvision who have won our “Share a Table With Jenny” Instagram Contest. They will be the only people with a guaranteed table. For everyone else please remember that seating is going to be limited. If you have been nominated but will have left town before the awards show please let us know, as you need to be in town to collect the award. We normally require a company to be in the crowd to collect the award, but this year if there is someone you designate as a proxy, we will allow them to receive the award for you.

Houdini: The Man, The Myth, The Legend—CCFM Salle Pauline-Boutal

“Houdini, the man, the myth, the ,legend”

Join Houdini as he arrives in Winnipeg 102 years ago. Witness the magic that made him the most popular magician, the world over.

Filled with laughs, excitement, magic and of course…escapes!

Final show is Sunday at 6:30 pm

Venue 4: CCFM Salle Pauline-Boutal

The Routine

Joylyn Secunda—CCFM Salle Pauline-Boutal

Joylyn Secunda explores both the natural world and urban drudgery without any need for setting or props. Their excellent command of every part of their entire body is all they need to deliver clear characterizations of both the surreal and the mundane.

There isn’t much time to see this delightful piece of physical theatre due to its unfortunate and unforeseen extremely limited run. As of the time of publication for this review, there is still one more showing Saturday 4:15 pm, don’t wait to secure a ticket to this meticulously executed and whimsical mime.

Julius Caesar

Indifferently Reformed—The Asper Centre for Theatre & Film (U of W)

An incredible cast, an ambitious set that is expertly handled, and a solid grasp of the text make this another strong outing from Indifferently Reformed. The one thing I think is important to note is that this is the COMEDY of Julius Caesar, not the TRAGEDY. They commit to that choice and they play it out well – and the audience was laughing heartily throughout – but other fans of tragedy, especially if they are familiar with this play, might be a bit thrown.

Saints & Sinners

Crosseyed Rascals—One88

The Cross-Eyed Rascals are always a safe bet for me. I know I’m going to have fun, and I’m always curious to see what hijinks they come up with this year. If you’re looking for family-friendly improv, this is the one to grab (but DON’T come to their dark show if you’re bringing the kids!)
