Opera Mouse

It took the kids a while to get up to full speed but they had a great time as soon as shifted into gear. Gall invites lots of audience participation so even the most antsy kid shouldn’t get bored. I love opera and I hope that our youth can embrace this beautiful genre of music. This show provides a fantastic introduction.

The show concludes with a beautiful rendition of “O Mio Babbino Caro” from one of my favourite composers, Puccini. I keep hoping for Gall to put on a show where she just sings arias.

Melanie Gall is back with a hilarious musical puppet show for kids. The audience was enthralled! Participation was a big part of the show with kids encouraged to ask questions and contribute ideas, which led to some highly entertaining interactions. The show is an educational introduction to the world of opera music in an accessible way for children and their parents. My four year old was so impressed at the end of the grand finale song he stood on his chair and shouted with glee “That was AMAZING!” I saw Melanie sing last year and was so impressed I had to go see her perform again this year and hope to see her keep coming back with more new material for years to come.

Opera Mouse—Kids Venue

Did you know that there’s actual opera at the Winnipeg Fringe this year? Opera sung by…a mouse? Yes, Tillie Mouse has come back to the Fringe, and she’s teaching kids (and their adults) to follow their musical dreams. Tillie has traveled the world, performing to thousands of kids as far away as Sudan, Chad, Cambodia and Laos. She has performed Off-Broadway in New York City, and promises squeaking, singing and the most fun you can have with your whiskers on!
